about

First Aid Kit is the first of many songs co-written by myself and Joanna Burt-Kinderman.

We're releasing it February 8th, 2021 for two reasons:

1. It's Joanna's Birthday! Happy Birthday, dear friend and writing cohort.

2. It's the birthday of my late sister, Alicea. She died unexpectedly at the age of 40. This song is one of many songs I've written or co-written exploring that grief. This is one way I will honor her this year.

First Aid Kit tackles the topic of grief and surrender, resistance and acceptance, and ultimately the idea that we don't know the reasons things happen. (Honey, run from anyone who tells you they DO know.)

We don't have to pretend. We don't have to know the answers. We can put that down.

Thank you so much for listening, sharing, and supporting. It means the world to us.

lyrics

First Aid Kit
By Judith Avers and Joanna Burt-Kinderman

Put down the first aid kit
I want you to know
It’s not an easy thing, kid
Letting something go

Write it and remember
The next time you feel alone
No amount of pressure will help
Letting something go

And no, I don’t know much about why we’re here
And we try to pretend
On and on and on and on and on

Happy is a moment
To hold in afterglow
Sadness is what shapes us
A canyon river’s flow

I’m trying to do better
For you I’d like to show
What I wish someone had taught me about
Letting something go.

And no, I don’t know much about why we’re here
And we try to pretend
On and on and on and on and on

about

Judith Avers Davis, California

I'm a Kansas-born musician now living in California with my wife and our three cats. I've been playing music and writing songs for a long time.
Maybe I should have gone to school for something a little more secure, but now it seems this is the main skill I have to offer. New album out - I hope you like it.
